Ausecuma Beats are more than just a band, they are a philosophy. Led by their fearless bandleader and master djembe player, Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble demonstrate what can happen when a group of artists come together based on an idea – in this case, the idea of place, of transplanting cultural heritage into a contemporary city.
The band showcase what happens when people from the farthest flung corners of the world find themselves living shoulder to shoulder in a new environment. The result – nine unique individuals, each masters of their own craft and with their own personal histories, working together to create something exciting. And exciting it is – this is the sound of our community. Look! There on the stage – Ausecuma Beats are performing for us. We are all part of the same family.

Ausecuma Beats is represented in Australia by not-for-profit record label - Music in Exile. Music in Exile is a new initiative aimed at creating space for artists working in culturally or linguistically diverse communities in Australia. They hope to use the resources at their disposal to collaborate with artists and share some of their incredible stories. Music in Exile is very much an artist-driven initiative; they aim only to offer their services where it is desired, to listen to artists and collaborate with them in building a trajectory for their careers in Australia. Music in Exile firmly believe in the principle of ‘nothing about us without us’, and undertake their activities accordingly. The Social Studio proudly collaborates with MIE and its artists. @ausecumabeats @music.in.exile
