Collection: The Social Studio x Atong Atem x Romance Was Born

We’re so proud and excited to launch our new collaboration between the amazing Atong Atem and Australian design icons Romance Was Born. This collection brings together not only leading names in fine art and fashion, but also the opportunity for meaningful social change.

The capsule collection, manufactured in The Social Studio’s Collingwood workshop, features Atem’s hyper-local artwork, born from the pandemic. It captures the stillness and quiet of her walks along the Merri Creek during the Melbourne lockdowns of 2020 and in it, she depicts a richly coloured, decaying natural world.

Taking her artwork as inspiration, Romance Was Born devised a capsule collection emblazoned with Atong's print. The Social Studio worked with both artist and designer teams to finalise artwork, fabric, and silhouettes, manufacturing the pieces in its Ethical Clothing Australia-accredited studio.

The National Gallery of Victoria will be stocking the Macroscopic Oversized Tee and Walk On Bag from Thursday, March 25. 

All proceeds from the collection go towards supporting the work and education programs The Social Studio runs for refugee and migrant young people.
