Collection: Kate Beynon

Kate Beynon is a Hong Kong-born, Naarm/Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist, working across painting, textile soft-sculpture, immersive spaces, public art, fashion, animation and projection art.

During her recent 2021-22 Bank of Melbourne Collingwood Yards Residency,
Kate developed the Art X Fashion project TudoKB in connection with The Social Studio.
Shaped by her interests in storytelling, mixed cultural identity, auspicious imagery and
guardian figures, Kate has collaborated with the Social Studio on several special art, fashion and community projects, including the Room of Lucky Charms Jackson Bella Room Commission, Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney/Gadigal Country.

The artist book An-Li: A Chinese Ghost Tale (with ARTand Foundation) and exhibition held at TarraWarra Museum of Art, inspired designs for the limited edition Art Scarves. Other designs are adapted from vibrant paintings, infused with guardian figures, creatures and talismans. The current capsule collection is all made of 'Ahimsa' Peace Silk which is woven after the silk moth emerges, organically processed, sustainably printed by Think Positive Prints (Sydney) and ethically manufactured by the Social Studio at Collingwood Yards.

Kate's recent art & fashion related highlights include Spirits Summoning Yards edit, animated projections with Rali Beynon & Michael Pablo, for Mono-Poly curated by Liquid Architecture and the Centre for Projection Art, Collingwood Yards, 2022; TudoKB Art X Fashion Pop-up Preview, Independent Program 2022 Paypal Melbourne Fashion Festival; Creature Feature, Precinct Night 2022 Melbourne Art Fair; and
with son Rali Beynon: KB X RB: Mask Spirits, at Sutton Gallery, Naarm/Melbourne in 2022.

Kate is a nine-time Archibald finalist, included in major exhibitions: Portrait23: Identity at the National Portrait Gallery, Kanberri/Canberra, 2023; and the Archie 100: A Century of the Archibald Prize, touring nationally from the Art Gallery of NSW.
