The Mamuthone show themselves on 17th of January, and also come out during a Carnival ritual that connects to the rural world. The mask has a tragic look and comes in many forms (sometimes horns). The costume includes thick goat skins and bells. During “Mamoiada”, the Mamuthone parade on streets, celebrating with bonfires and dancing all night long. Some people see Mamuthone as monsters that hung and other see them as old men with ancestral spirit.
