Carnevale Delle Maschere
Hand drawn art portraying Italian characters from il carnevale and la mascherata
Masks from the oldest Carnevale
Sardinia
These wooden masks are used during primitive rituals that transport you back in time. The Carnevale celebrates the relationship between man and animal. The first mask is the Boes and it represents the wild face of nature. The mask in the centre is the ugly Mamuthone. When in full costume, wearing goat skins and bells, it wards off bad spirits. The third mask is the Goat of Sardinia and it is of rural origin.
